We were as surprised as anyone when Sony Mobile had a no-show at MWC last month. It was the first time that Sony did not reveal any new Xperia products at MWC since its Android adventure began. We all knew that new handsets were on the horizon though, judging by numerous leaks, so the question became when can we expect the next announcement.
These rumours have intensified in recent days as we discovered numerous UK retail listings for the Sony Xperia SP (C530X) HuaShan and Sony Xperia L (C210X) Taoshan, pointing to launch dates before the end of March. We can now confirm that Sony Mobile Russia is holding a press event on 18 March where there is a strong possibility of an announcement for new Xperia handsets. We have reached out to Sony Mobile’s UK PR team to find out if a similar event is planned, but we have had no response back so far.
